More than a sweep.
A structured detection process.

A bug sweep, or TSCM inspection, is a systematic technical and physical examination of an environment to detect the presence of covert surveillance devices. These include audio listening devices, hidden cameras, GPS trackers, GSM bugs, and other wireless surveillance equipment.

The threat is real and growing. Surveillance devices are increasingly affordable and readily available. In the context of family proceedings, commercial disputes, corporate competition, or personal relationships, the motivation to deploy them is more common than most people assume.

A professional TSCM sweep goes significantly further than a visual check. It involves radio frequency spectrum analysis to detect active transmissions, non-linear junction detection to identify dormant or passive devices, physical inspection of all surfaces, fixtures, and fittings, and vehicle-specific equipment where required.

Fortis delivers this service through a specialist operational capability. All instructions are handled as discrete, confidential engagements from the outset. No prior relationship with Fortis is required to make an enquiry.

A note on discretion

TSCM instructions are among the most sensitive we handle. The circumstances that lead a client to suspect surveillance are often themselves confidential. We do not ask for explanations before we agree to help. The enquiry is private. The process is private. The findings are private.

  • Before or during sensitive legal proceedings
  • Following unexplained information leaks
  • Prior to confidential business negotiations
  • Following renovation or contractor access to premises
  • Where a relationship breakdown involves potential surveillance
  • As part of a regular privacy programme for senior executives
  • Where a client has reason to suspect they are being monitored

From enquiry to
clear findings.

A TSCM instruction does not require a lengthy lead-in. Where the situation requires a prompt response, we will arrange attendance as quickly as the client's circumstances allow.

The process is designed to minimise disruption and maintain complete discretion. Where a client prefers that the inspection takes place in their absence, or at a specific time, we work around those requirements.

All findings are delivered in a written report. Where devices are found, we advise on their origin, likely purpose, and appropriate next steps, including any relevant legal considerations. We do not make that determination on behalf of the client but we ensure they have the information they need to make it themselves.

  • 01
    Confidential enquiry

Contact us by telephone or email. No prior relationship is required and no explanation is necessary at the enquiry stage. We will confirm availability and discuss what the inspection will involve.

  • 02
    Instruction and scheduling

Once instructed, we agree a time and access arrangement that suits the client. Inspections can be conducted at any time, including outside of working hours or while the client is absent from the premises.

  • 03
    Technical inspection

The inspection is conducted by trained operatives using specialist counter-surveillance equipment. Physical and electronic detection methods are applied systematically across all relevant areas of the environment.

  • 04
    Written findings and advice

A written report is provided setting out what was found, what was not found, and the basis for those conclusions. Where relevant, we provide advice on next steps and any vulnerability that should be addressed.

Legal and ethical standards

All Fortis TSCM work is conducted lawfully and in accordance with applicable UK legislation, including the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000, the Data Protection Act 2018, and relevant common law provisions relating to privacy and property access. We operate to a professional and ethical standard on every instruction, without exception. Clients requiring advice on the legal implications of findings are directed to appropriate legal counsel.
